Lester hits mile 2,400 on day 50 of Journey for a Better World

By: Nike
There’s a mad man moving across the country. Mad for the journey. Addicted to life. 102 days coast to coast, spreading access to athletes. He’ll run 32 marathons and bike 3800 miles. He’s just one man. But his heart is big, for sport and for the planet. Today, he’s halfway home. May seem crazy to some. But it means the world to Jason Lester. It means a better world. “What are YOU doing?”

If you want to change the future, change the present. If we want to make a better world for our children, we must first make a change in ourselves. Sport not only changed my life, it saved it—by giving me a purpose. Nike has a saying: “If you have a body, you are an athlete.” I truly believe that. It’s why I’ve dedicated my body and soul to help Nike give young people around the world greater access to sport. I know from experience that sport can make a better world. Glendale teen back in the game after spinal surgery #NEVERSTOP

By GEORGE WITKOWSKI | The Glendale Star
When Glendale resident Huntter Damico takes the pitching circle, she treats it like any other game. Only there was one game which forced her from competing as she ordinarily would, and she found the challenge great. Huntter, 13, attends Hillcrest Middle School. She pitches and plays first base for the Arizona Hotshots Gatti 14U softball team, and she has played softball since she was 9 years old.

“She had this uncanny ability to separate pain,” Karen said. “She’s strong and strong in faith and has the ability to do something and turn it off and do what she needs to do. ”Her strong sense of faith has carried her through, and she has a saying from a man, who had a bicycle accident and is paralyzed in his right arm. ”His motto is, ‘Never stop.’”

JOURNEY 4 A BETTER WORLD

Don’t tell me what I can’t do.
Don’t tell me not to DREAM big fat audacious dreams.
Like making the world better THROUGH SPORT.
Sport is my passion.
Sport inspires hope, instills discipline, it raises self-esteem, reduces depression and disease. Raises awareness, rallies communities, defines nations, defies gravity and denies prejudice.
Sport laughs in the face of racism, flicks a towel on sexism’s ass and kicks sand in the face of discrimination.
It makes neck hairs stand to attention, hell it’s even been known to stop wars.
That’s a pretty impressive resume. Sport, you’re hired.
I WON’T REST
Until every living breathing person has access to it.
And Nike won’t stop making the best gear to propel humanity forward.
Without wrecking our global playground in the process.
I WILL DO GOOD — with a vengeance.
And to all the cynics and naysayers, I’m going to make the world better for you anyway.
Because like sport, I do not discriminate.
We’ve made the world better
BUT I STILL WANT A BETTER WORLD.

316,000 foot steps through Death Valley for Clean Water

It was a long and very eventful 6 day journey through Death Valley.

Monday afternoon I crossed the 306 mile mark of my epic journey out of Nevada and through an insanely desolate route into California including the Badwater ultra-marathon course covering 306+ miles.

Thank you to my crew who did a remarkable job. Thanks to my team at Nike, inc. who inspire me to be my best. To Operation Blessing, MetaBender, PocketChange and the hundreds who did the Global Run – thank you for making this vision a reality.

I put my body and mind to the test to raise money for Operation Blessing. A charity devoted to funding clean water projects in villages around the world that currently lack access to local, safe water. Please join me and support H2OPE at www.ob.org/h2ope .

H2OPE306 Run November 1st-5th

On November 1st, Jason Lester and his team ( Lisa Smith-Batchen, Amanda Mangum Esquivel, Sister Mary Beth, Catherine Ryan, Scott Morgan, Gwelle Hsu, Dave Carder ) will begin a 306 mile run across Death Valley in an effort to raise funds for Operation Blessing’s Clean Water program ( www.ob.org/h2ope ). I am sure that you have heard the facts before: Every 20 seconds a child dies of…their of thirst or a water-borne disease. One billion people on this planet lack access to safe, clean water. The devastation is staggering. The cost in human lives, each life so unique and precious, is unfathomable. The tragedy and wrongness of it cannot fail to stir the hearts of those who seek justice, love mercy and earnestly desire to be a part in making this world a better place for future generations.
